This collection marks something of a milestone in my history on the demoscene
- my first ever -real- musicdisk. I know I've released ZIPs of more than one
song before (I released several in May 95), but they weren't so much
musicdisks as just haphazard bundles of songs. Indeed, at the time I didn't
even consider them to be musicdisks.
This one is different; I've gathered this collection of unreleased tunes
specifically to be released as a musicdisk in its own right. It's the
culmination of work which was started way back near the start of 1995 (if I
remember rightly), the latest of which was begun in December and completed
this month (January 96).
Indeed, since I've been an "active" member of the scene for about eight months
as I release this disk, it works out at one release for each month I've been
active. :)
*NOTE! I strongly recommend you use either MIDAS module player or Cubic
Player for playback, as I can't test them with CapaMOD (no GUS, y'see)
and both of these programs play them back just as they should be.
Mod4Win would probably work too, but I can't test them on that anymore
cos my 30 days ran out. ;I
The Loneliest Part Of Me
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This song reflects my experiences of Assembly 95. It was my first demo party,
and I made the mistake of not familiarizing myself with pictures of anyone
before the party, resulting in my being alone for the duration of the whole
party since I was too shy to just go up and ask anyone if they'd seen somebody
I'd heard of. At least it prepared me for future demo parties.
Pianography
~~~~~~~~~~~
I took it upon myself one day to do a -proper- piece of piano music, instead
of all the plinky-plonky stuff I'd been writing prior to it. It still somehow
sounds plinky-plonky :) but it's nonetheless pleasant enough to listen to...
even if it won't win any awards. :)
Yammah's Nightmare
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The fourth in the Yammah series which would be something of a trademark for
me, if anyone would actually -listen- to my stuff. :) The feel of the tune
changes suddenly in the middle, so be prepared...
The Reincarnation Of Yammah!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The fifth tune in the Yammah series, I entered this in the multichannel
competition at The Party V. Of course, it didn't stand a chance, but that's
another story. ;) It's quite up-tempo with some neat tricks like sliding
chords and stuff which was pretty experimental for me. :) Eliot of EMS helped
me add the finishing touches to this at TP5, for which I'm very grateful since
it ironed out a lot of the repetition.
Yammah's Confusion
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sixth in the Yammah series, this is definitive pop. :) I still believe
the first of the series (Yammah's Theme) is one of the best in the series.
(It can be found at the Hornet archive or on the Freedom data CD under
/music/artists/liam.) Someday I might try to mix these latest three together
like I did with the first three of the series...
Later Tonight - a Pet Shop Boys cover
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This tune is my first real cover version. It has no lyric, which is exactly
the way I feel cover versions should be done. If you try to have an instrument
taking the place of the lead, as with most MIDI covers, it almost always ruins
the song, which is why I opted to leave it out. Anyone who knows the original
from the Boys' first album (titled Please) can sing along... :)
The Perpetual Journey
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This tune has to be one of my best. Not only does it sound pleasant, but it
also sounds unusually realistic for one of my works. It was inspired by
Leviathan's works but, of course, it's not -quite- as good. ;)
Wastelands
~~~~~~~~~~
A rather haunting tune, I feel. I did most of this a few days after the death
of my father, around the time of the funeral and so on, when the household was
awash with emotion. I took the opportunity to sink plenty of it into this
song. I believe it turned out well.
Feedback would be greatly appreciated, of course; I've always been keen to
know what others think of my music...
